Project: Zippered Leggings

Trend: Zippers

I was lucky enough to be asked by Everyday Fun Facts to write about my favorite fashion must-have.  Obviously this was a very difficult choice; there are so many parts of fashion that feel necessary.  But there has been one fashion staple that has been standing out to me this season.  That staple is leggings of course!  I haven’t jumped onto the legging bandwagon until pretty recently.  Now that I have fully committed to this fashion regular, I have found them to be useful in almost any situation.  I have worn leggings to sleep, to the gym, to work, out on the town and when just lounging around at home.  Nothing can beat these things!  Did I mention all leggings are super comfortable?

I was thinking of a way to make my leggings a bit more personalized.  How can I add some legging flair while still looking fashionable?  I thought, why not add a flashy zipper at the bottom? This DIY is super easy and super affordable.  I got the zipper at a nearby craft store for under $3.00.  So, are you ready to make your average pair of leggings look designer? Join me in my tutorial below to see how, and as always-happy sewing! 🙂

Project: Plaid Shoulder Bag

Trend: Plaid

I wanted to make a bag that would match everything! What better time to use basic plaid in black and white?  This fabric is super soft and I think it came out pretty nicely.  At first I thought I would be making a wristlet.  As I kept working on it though, I thought this would be perfect as a mini shoulder bag! If you have made any DIY’s that were inspired by  Trend-mix I would love to see them! Get in touch through e-mail or social media and as always, happy sewing!:)

Project: Sequin Bib Necklace

Trend:Sequins

Happy Holidays everyone! A day before Christmas and another DIY.  Here is a tutorial that can be made from all kids craft supplies and somehow still look fabulous!  I wasn’t sure how this would come out but I think it looks rather stylish.  It is the perfect accessory for holiday parties and can dress up the plainest of outfits.  With all these vacation days it is also a great activity to do if you have some time to fill.  I used a hot glue gun, but any sort of fabric glue can work just as well.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Also, don’t forget to have fun and make it your own! Merry Christmas to those celebrating! 🙂

Project: Velvet Envelope Clutch

Trend:Velvet

Tis’ the season to be stylish! Welcome to another Trend-mix tutorial.  I originally made this bag because I wanted to have something fun to carry with me into the New Year.  Velvet happens to be on trend at the moment. It is a great fabric to work with and an even better one to hold for a night (it’s just so soft!).  I hope you find this tutorial easy to follow.  Let me know if you have any questions.  P.S. don’t get intimidated by that pattern,  it is easier to do than you think.  Happy sewing! 🙂

Project: Tree Chord Bracelet

Trend: Chord Bracelets

These chord bracelets are everywhere! From small boutiques to Alex and Ani bracelets they are kind of a thing.  They also seem to have a larger price tag than necessary for such a hippy dippy look.  Especially when you can make the same thing for about $3!  I thought back to my lanyard days at camp and brought back the “cobra” stitch. I don’t know if you remember how to do that but I show you how to in the pictures below.  Here is also a video tutorial in case it’s hard to follow along: Cobra Stitch (they start explaining the stitch at 1:07)   I think it came out pretty well, let me know what you think! Now go get creative and have some fun! Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂

Project: Polka Dot Ribbon/Cork Board

Trend:Polka Dots

This ribbon/cork board is so easy to make and so useful to have!  I got the idea from something I saw in a Pottery Barn Teen catalogue a little while ago.  The item I saw was a bit over priced.  I knew I would never buy one, so I thought I could make one!  Everything here is very affordable and easy to work with.  The hardest part is finding the right material and ribbon combo, naturally, I went for colorful polka dots.  I hope you enjoy this                              tutorial and please let me know if you end up making it. Now                         have fun and get creative! 🙂

Project: Daisy Statement Necklace

Trend: Daisy

I love the Daisy pattern trend, it was always hippy dippy and now its fashionable!  I have a lot of jewelry but realized nothing in the statement necklace category, obviously I needed to change this.  I went to Kohl’s and got inspired by Lauren Conrad’s jewelry line, I love her stuff, if you have not seen her collection you really should check it out!  The key to pulling this tutorial off is all about buying the right materials and being handy with pliers.  The main daisy piece has a jump ring attached to each end (these are necessary to have in order to attach it to any chain).  If you end up making this or anything you’ve seen on Trend-mix, I would love to see it!
