Project:Tie-Dye Fabric

Trend: Tie-Dye

I don’t know about you, but every time it starts getting warmer out, I get the need to tie-dye something.  I forgot about this tie-dye kit until it recently fell out of my closet and onto my head (it’s so easy to forget what’s up there).  Usually I like to stick to my own dyeing methods, but I thought I might try something different and actually read the directions for once.  The results are pretty great! Now all I need to do is figure out what to make with this fabric.  Hmmm..maybe a handbag? Obviously I could use another one of those ;).  What do you think I should make?  Anyone else a fan of tie-dyeing?  Let me know and happy crafting! 🙂

Museum at FIT: Fairy Tale Fashion

If you love fairy tales as much as I do you, you should definitely check out the Fashion Institute of Technology Museum. This museum is based in NYC and is always free of charge. Naturally, I had to stop by when I saw there was an exhibit called “Fairy Tale Fashion.”  Walking into this exhibit is sort of magical and enchanting.  There are stations set up with a synopsis of your favorite fairy tales (Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood and more) along with designer clothing inspired by the tales.  Below is just a few of the amazing pieces I saw.  The designers below include Dolce & Gabanna, Christian Louboutin, and  Dior just to name a few.  Can you guess which story belongs with each fashion?

Project: Frilled Wristlet

Trend: Frills

Can you smell that? Ahh yes, Spring is in the air along with frills, florals, and fashion; at least that’s what I’ve been noticing. Frills are super easy to make, sort of like sewing pleats to the outside of a bag.  If that doesn’t make sense, don’t worry there are pictures.  I decided to use this paisley patterned fabric, it was really easy to work with and thought it might be nice to have a darker fabric with such a girly sewing pattern.  Are you in the market for frills this season?  Has anyone sewn any similar projects?  Let me know and happy sewing! 🙂

Project: DIY Business Cards

As someone who’s once again on the job hunt, I thought I might share some DIY business card tips. These cards are a great tool to have when networking, they look professional and they give you a chance to stand out and be memorable.

What to put on the card? Personalizing your information in Microsoft Word or Photoshop should be a breeze!  I like to include my name, title, e-mail, and phone number.

Usually I’ll add a personalized logo on the computer, but this time, I stamped each card by hand with a different design.  Stamps are cheap, fun, and will make you and your cards stand out.

Anyone else on the job hunt?  Happy crafting and good luck networking! 🙂

Project: Beauty Review

Product: Royal Rose Hydrating Serum

Hello bloggers and friends! I’m excited to tell you about the new Royal Rose Hydrating Serum from Valentia.

Valentia is the name for the Roman Goddess of healing.  This company is all about using natural ingredients and makes everything here in the U.S. Their products are created by using sustainable energy only.  If you are a hippy dippy environmentalist like me, this is good news!

The serum is infused with rose petals, lavender, and primrose to moisturize and calm your skin.

Now to the important stuff, what I actually found using this serum.  The serum has a neutral scent, which was a good sign (no added fragrances).  A couple of drops over night and boom, my face felt like a baby’s bottom.  The serum is super moisturizing and it made my skin super soft over night.

I highly recommend this product! So happy to have been introduced to this brand, thank you Valentia!  Learn more about the Royal Rose Hydrating Serum here.

Anyone ever hear of Valentia or use a similar product? Let’s talk beauty! 🙂

Project: Floral Chambray Pocket

Trend: Florals

Anyone else a fan of chambray shirts? They are a serious classic that can match almost anything and are super comfortable to wear.  I added this piece of floral fabric over the pocket to add a bit of fun to an otherwise plain button down.  With spring around the corner, florals were definitely on my mind.  Are there any trends that you are looking forward to wearing this spring? Let me know and happy sewing! 🙂

Project: Jacqueline de Ribes

Ever hear of Jacqueline de Ribes?  Until yesterday neither had I, but apparently she was a pretty bad mama jamma.  Jacqueline was a socialite and fashion muse for haute couturier’s.  That is until she went undercover as a fashion assistant and soon become a designer herself.  It was frowned upon for young woman to take a job of any kind, as a designer’s assistant Jacqueline went against the grain and learned the fashion trade.  The pictures below show some of her creations.  All are beautifully showcased now at the metropolitan museum of art at an exhibition called, “Jacqueline de Ribes; The Art of Style.”  What do you think of her designs?  Have you ever heard of the designer and fashion muse before?

Project: Black-Tie Affair

Trend: Black Tie

Happy February everyone! I have a fancy bag tutorial for you today. One of my best friends is getting married this month so naturally I had to make a bag to wear for the big day (don’t worry; I made her a bag as well). I was really feeling a black and white pallet for some reason; it matches everything and looks super chic. This modern lace has been collecting dust in my closet for a couple of years now, so it was nice to finally use it for the perfect project. Anyone have any fancy events coming up and want to DIY something? Tell me about it! Happy sewing from Trend-mix! 🙂
