Project: Bow Bangles

Trend:Bows

I know I add bows to a lot of things, but I really just can’t help myself.  This tutorial is no different, I added bows to otherwise plain gold bangles. I mean they were just asking for it!  Gold, glittery jewelry is so perfect for the fall, it adds a bit of shine to a basic outfit and the bows are just extra fun for us fashionistas out there.  If you are one of those DIY-phobic people this is the perfect project for you, because if you don’t like your crafty work, when the hot glue dries it can be easily taken off.  Otherwise this should only take about five minutes to complete, happy crafting! 🙂

Project: Plaid Satchel

Trend: Plaid

This bag is unique, soft, plaid, and most important of all, it’s easy to make! The bag really came to life once I added the gold metal zipper and chain handle. Sometimes it’s all about the hardware. Think about any plain bag you have, it may be a solid color, maybe black, but the hardware really livens it up! I might have spent a bit more money than I was expecting for the trim, but that’s what coupons are for right? What do you think about plaid? Have you ever worked with the material? Happy crafting! 🙂

Project: Rose Cosmetic Case

Trend: Roses

Hello fashion friends! I do not have a typical DIY for you this week but I do have some big news, at least it’s big news for me.  I have succumbed to peer pressure and have finally opened an Etsy Store.  As a maker  of handbags and accessories for about 12 years now (whoa!), one would think I would have done this by now.  Well, there is a time for everything and right now, it is my time to be on this site.  I thought I’d also share with you my latest creation, I made this “Rose Cosmetic Case” recently and fell in love with the fabric the moment I saw it!  (It will also be posted up on my store for anyone interested) Do any of you have an Etsy store? Have you sold or bought anything from the website? Tell me your Etsy stories! 🙂

Project: Beth Levine

Trend: Fashion History-Beth Levine

Over the weekend I went to a fabulous museum exhibit on shoes. The focus was on a shoe designer I had never heard of named Beth Levine. She was a very talented American designer based in New York City and also, a pretty cool lady.

Beth and her husband, Herbert, formed their own shoe business. Even though Beth was the designer the company was named, “Herbert Levine.” They used a man’s name in order to avoid the chauvinistic attitudes towards women working in the shoe business during the 1940s-1970s.

She and her husband Herbert designed shoes for Broadway Theater, Celebrities, Couture and for Department Stores. (Just a little name-dropping these include: Barbara Streisand, Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy, Liza Minnelli, also, Harrod’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus…. you get the idea!)

Great Shoe Accomplishments!

She is best known for creating mules and for the popularization of boots in the 1960’s. With the combination of Beth’s innovative designs and Nancy Sinatra’s song “These Boots Were Made for Walkin” Herbert Levine soon became a household name.

I really enjoyed her work and her story, so I bought the book describing everything! Below are a couple of my favorite pages, quotes, and of course shoes. Hope you enjoy perusing and maybe learn something new! 🙂

Project: Mini Polka-Dot Notebook

Trend: Journal

Anyone else out there keep a journal or a diary? Writing and sketching on a daily basis is a new thing for me but something I’m glad I picked up. I only got into it because of a notebook I found at Papyrus, it was so fun I was looking for excuses to use it. The notebook was so small it was easy to carry around in my bag and to write or draw whenever I wanted. Suddenly wishing I had more notebooks, I figured why not make them!? So whether you feel like taking up journaling, already do, or just want to make a fun notebook, I hope you enjoy and use this tutorial for some inspiration. It really is an easy one to pull off. Happy crafting!

Project: Bow Barrettes

Trend: Bows

Why are bows so cool? Well they are hot this season and to be honest I saw Chanel send their models wearing barrettes down the runway and I immediately thought, “I can make that!” So here we are another school year, another round of seasons, and a new DIY to look forward too. I hope everyone is enjoying the new chill in the air. It brings about new ideas and freshness. At least that’s what I like to think of fall. New beginnings. So wherever you are if you are starting something new or not, it is the start of a new season and I hope this DIY inspires you to wear or do something a little bit different.
