Project: Plaid Lap Top Case

Trend: Plaid

Plaid is a huge trend right now! Besides being in fashion, plaid is also super comfy and cozy.  I highly recommend this material because its just so soft and easy to work with.  This is a great project for any level seamstress.  Besides being a good project this laptop case is just really good to have, and it’s way cheaper than buying one.  I made this case according to my macbook.  If you have a different computer and want to know the dimensions you should cut, just ask me in the comments and I’ll do the sewing math for you. If you have made any of the projects here I would love to see them!  Show off your stuff and get in touch through email: trendmixblog@gmail.com, Facebook and Twitter! 🙂

Project: Studded Phone Case

Trend: Studs

Hello DIY fans!  Today I have a really easy tutorial for you.  Now that I have started using my glue  gun, I really can’t stop.  I also used Washi Tape for the first time today.  It is  super easy to use and they come in all different colors, I highly recommend them!  I was perusing a snooty boutique and saw some expensive studded phone cases.  They were all really fun, unlike the people working there.  Instead of giving them my money I thought I could design one.  Here’s to saving money and looking fabulous! Happy crafting! 🙂

Project: Polka Dot Head Wrap

Trend: Polka Dots

This post was inspired by one of my friends, she asked if I could make a head-wrap tutorial and I said, “sure”!  I have seen the head-wrap become more and more popular, on celebrities and in street fashion, these head-wraps are simple and stylish.  They are also easy to make which I especially like!  I thought using a polka-dot fabric would be fun but feel free to use any fabric you like!  Enjoy!  🙂

Project: Gilded Sunglasses

Trend:Happy Halloween!

When I was thinking about my next DIY project, I was trying to come up with something for Halloween.  I thought why not, bedazzled sunglasses?  I feel like you can be anything while wearing these from Lady Gaga to a “fashionista.”  I didn’t go crazy with glueing on crystals but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.  Also, while making these I realized they kind of look like a version of Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses so feel free to say you’re dressed up as a D&G model as well!  It’s all for fun you can even change what you are as the night goes on.  This is probably the fastest tutorial I’ve made here, it took about 10 minutes to do so its nice and simple.  What are some other Halloween DIY projects? Have you made anything for the season? Share below! 🙂

Project: Graphic Tote

Trend: Graphic Print

I’m loving the black and white graphic print for fall right now! It looks super cool and can add a lot of interest to an otherwise simple outfit.  This tote is great because it can fit a lot of stuff in it too.  This tutorial shows you how to put in lining as well, which can be applied to any of the previous bags we’ve made.  If you have any questions about how I did something please ask in the comments below.  I hope you enjoy this project and make it your own! 🙂

Wonder Magazine was nice enough to let me contribute this tutorial to their first issue!  Check it out at the following link: wondermagazine.co.uk

Project: Embellished Sweater

Trend: Embellished

I’ve been seeing these ‘bedazzled’ sweaters since last fall.  I love them, but whenever I looked at the price tag of one thought they always seemed a bit high.  I realized  that I could just make one! I originally got this sweater from Kohl’s and now it looks awesome.  Hope you all enjoy sewing and making it your own! 🙂

I was lucky enough to write this as a guest post for Pixeled Paper Designs.  They re-did the layout and it came out great! Check it out at the above link.

Sewing 101: Back Stitch

I wanted to go back to basics this week.  So many of you have commented that you did not know how to sew.  I took this week as an opportunity to go over the back stitch.  For those of you who already know how to sew, this may seem lame.  But without the basics we would have nothing! Without the back stitch I could not have made those handbags, wristlets or shoes!  So keep this in mind while you practice your skills, the basics are the building blocks to awesome fashions. 🙂sewing 101

Here are some projects to test out your skills:
