Project: Heart Charm Bracelet

Happy almost Valentines Day! Why not show yourself some love by making this Heart Charm Bracelet?  This project is super easy to make and will only take about 15 minutes! The key to mastering any jewelry creation like this is knowing how to unlink the chain by using your tools (in this case, pliers).  This bracelet can be made extra special by adding different charms and colors that have meaning to you! What are your plans this Valentines Day?  Let me know in the comments and as always happy crafting! 🙂

Project: Silver Silk

Project: Silver Silk

As some of you may have noticed, I have been shifting the blog’s focus towards wedding and evening handbags.  I felt it’s something I just had to do as a newly engaged lady! Like a handbag designer’s calling, it hit me while completing my very own wedding handbag. It was so fun and romantic (and sparkly, of course) to make, that I didn’t really want the creative process to end!  Wedding and occasion handbags are a designers dream and whether attending a wedding or actually participating in one, being a part of that experience is pretty magical. All the bags you see here will also be available for purchase in my new Trend-mix Etsy store.

This will still remain my fashion blog with DIY posts, sources of inspiration, and tutorials, but I will begin to focus on the fancy and fabulous occasion purses that dreams are made of.

The following “Silver Silk” bag I created this week is made of this amazing hand beaded silk found in my local fabric store! The rope handle (usually used for holding curtains) is both comfortable and luxurious while adding utility to a very delicate fabric.

Has anyone else ever felt like they had a designer’s calling before? Let me know in the comments and as always, happy sewing! 🙂

Project: Guggenheim

Project: Guggenheim

This weekend I ventured out to the famous and very fabulous Solomon Guggenheim Museum in NYC. They have several museums throughout the world and thought it was worth taking a look.  Known for its modern art, the museum attracts architecture and art nerds alike because of its unique construction.

Built in a reverse pyramid-like style on the outside, the inside is a gradual and winding pathway to the top.  This exclusive format allows for amazing views, of art, people, light, and structure throughout the entire building. The walls may be lined with art, but the building is a piece of art in itself.

Designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1956, the construction of the building was actually petitioned against by artists and politicians.  Now that it’s a historical landmark and regular tourist NYC hot spot, it’s not going anywhere!

Has anyone else visited the Guggenheim? What’s your favorite art museum? Let me know in the comments! 🙂

Project: Wedding Bag

Project: Wedding Bag

Happy New Year fashion friends!  I haven’t written here regularly in quite some time.  As am sure you all know, life can get busy leaving less time for fashion blogging. Have I also mentioned I’m getting married this summer?!?  As a newly engaged lady, I would, of course, need to make my own handbag!

In the past, I have made handbags for friends when it was their turn to walk down the aisle.  Now that it was my turn, I had to create my own accessory masterpiece. To start, I found this amazing lace embellished with sequins, pearls, and beads as well as a yard of ivory silk at my local fabric store.

Making this bag was different, it was “the” bag and the pressure was on for me to make it perfect. Before sewing anything, so many questions had to be answered; What shape? What closure? Sewing technique?

I settled on a clutch flap over with magnetic snap closure, one of my favorites to make and something that would really show off the material.  Before I knew it, the bag was complete, unlike that wedding plan to-do list I’m still making my way through.

Has anyone else DIY’d anything for their wedding?  Let me know in the comments and as always happy crafting! 🙂

Project: NYC Holiday

Project: NYC Holiday

When window shopping turns into actual shopping and leads you to a Willy Wonka like Chanel pop up store, you know it’s Christmas time in NYC!

There’s something special about this time of year in the city that never sleeps.  With twinkling lights and glitter galore, how can one not venture out to explore that famous tree and go window shopping?

My adventure begins at Bloomingdales on 59th street, where I found a mesmerizing and shimmering dress with an NYC backdrop, (Bloomingdale’s store included).

While on my way to Saks Fifth Avenue, the mother of all Christmas hot-spots and lights shows, I was invited into a Chanel pop up right off the street.  A short multi-level visit of fragrance cafes and red walls, this pop-up offered shoppers Instagram worthy scenes of Chanel No.5 and a menu full of fragrances awaiting to be inhaled.

Finally, I made it to Saks Fifth Avenue and got to see those famous holiday windows.  All this window shopping, of course, lead me to do some actual shopping.  The last two pictures show a velvet Ted Baker handbag and leather Rebecca Minkoff bag spotted in Bloomingdales and Ted Baker on Fifth Avenue. Both perfect accessory options for that upcoming NYE party.

Has anyone else been exploring their local city lights this time of year?  What have you found?  Let me know in the comments!

Happy holidays from Trend-mix! 🙂

Neutrogena Face Mask Review

Project: Review

I was so happy to work with Neutrogena to review their latest and greatest skin care invention, the Hydrogel Mask. I had used similar masks before and was eager to try something new.

When I opened the package, I was surprised to find each mask was separated into two different parts.  There’s one mask for your forehead, nose and eye area, and another mask to cover your chin and upper lip. It was a bit slippery, but once on, it was magic!

Like the spa treatment I knew I needed, these masks were more than I expected!  They are cool to the touch and made me feel like I was on a 20-minute vacation, on an island where I actually have the time to take care of myself.

Besides the cool and relaxing feel, when I took the masks off, I was amazed to see the benefits so quickly!  As I write this, I know it sounds like a sham, but my love for these masks is real and I’m excited to add them to my skin care routine! 🙂

These masks represent more than just skin care, they represent the time dedicated to yourself to feel and look good, which sometimes is hard to come by!

Has anyone else tried these masks before?  What did you think?  Let me know in the comments! 🙂

Project: Inner Peace

Trend: Wellness

Welcome to my first post on health and wellness! I have been researching new ideas on how to be happier and relieve those everyday stresses I know we are all too familiar with.  What I found was everything you might expect from meditation to yoga to eating better.

Although these aren’t ground-breaking ideas, I didn’t realize how easy it was to implement into my already very busy life.  I also wasn’t prepared to start feeling the benefits as early as week one!

Meditation: Racing thoughts a problem?  Meditation helps you slow your thoughts and become aware of whats going on in that head of yours.  These can be done on the train ride home and can be as short as 3 minutes long!

Yoga: One 10 minute routine in the morning will set you up for your day of awareness, meaning, and just slow everything down before it has to speed up again.

Eating Well: Warning: I’m not a dieter! But simply adding all the good stuff throughout your day makes you feel better and I know it has helped me achieve some major inner peace points.  My favorite new snack is guacamole….so much goodness in every bite! Yum!

The above has all been upping my inner peace and sense of well-being,  hope you are all also having a happy and healthy 2018! Anyone else have well-being tips or tricks?  Let us know in the comments! 🙂
